Tsavo

Tsavo, one of Kenya’s largest and oldest national parks, is divided into two separate parks – Tsavo East and Tsavo West – each offering its own unique landscapes, wildlife, and attractions. Collectively, they form a vast wilderness area renowned for its rugged beauty, diverse ecosystems, and iconic wildlife encounters.

Tsavo East National Park is characterized by vast open plains, rocky outcrops, and the flowing waters of the Galana River. Known for its large herds of elephants, which are often seen dusting themselves in the red soil, Tsavo East offers excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, including sightings of lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and a variety of bird species.

Tsavo West National Park, on the other hand, is defined by its dramatic landscapes, including volcanic hills, lava flows, and the stunning Mzima Springs. The park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including rhinos, elephants, lions, leopards, hippos, and crocodiles, which can be spotted against the backdrop of the park’s scenic vistas.

Both parks offer a range of activities for visitors, including game drives, guided walks, and birdwatching excursions. The Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary in Tsavo West provides an opportunity to see endangered black rhinos up close, while the Shetani Lava Flow offers a glimpse into the park’s volcanic past.

Accommodation in Tsavo ranges from luxury lodges and tented camps to more budget-friendly options, ensuring there’s something to suit every traveler’s preferences. Whether exploring the vast savannahs of Tsavo East, marveling at the volcanic landscapes of Tsavo West, or simply soaking in the raw beauty of Kenya’s wilderness, a visit to Tsavo promises an unforgettable safari experience filled with adventure and discovery.
